Hixny’s secure patient portal—Hixny For You—surpassed 10,000 individual registrations recently. The portal allows people to view their records from Hixny-connected providers. These include lab results, medications, medical history and more.
Through Hixny For You, people can securely view, download and send their electronic health records using a computer or mobile device. The portal puts information from all of an individual’s connected providers in one place, reducing or eliminating the need to sign into multiple portals for different practices or organizations. Thanks to Hixny’s connection to the Statewide Health Information Network for New York (SHIN-NY), records include input from providers across the state. Individuals can also share flu shots or blood pressure readings recorded on their own to supplement their doctors’ information.
“This is a significant milestone, and we are pleased that so many people are seeing the value in Hixny For You,” said Hixny CEO Mark McKinney. “The more providers a patient sees, the more beneficial the portal becomes. Patients with the greatest needs also are the ones we most want to become more engaged in their healthcare.”
Hixny first introduced Hixny For You in 2014 to serve people discharged from five community hospitals. Today, Hixny for You is the patient portal of choice for eight hospital systems in the region, including Ellis Medicine and associated ambulatory practices, Saratoga Hospital and Adirondack Health, along with Whitney M. Young Jr. Health Services, six University of Vermont Health Network practices and three private practices serving the North Country.
As a whole, Hixny is the health information exchange (HIE) for 100 percent of nonprofit and private hospitals in the region, as well as more than 75 percent of primary care physicians and more than 65 percent of specialists.
Important Functions of Hixny for You
Within Hixny for You, a personal health dashboard puts all of an individual’s information in one convenient place. The design is similar to an online banking site that provides financial data at a glance. People can easily access records and work with their providers to correct errors.
The portal also contains a robust library of general medical information to help individuals educate themselves and to support their full understanding of results, diagnoses and conditions.
Hixny for You is also designed to support designated caregivers—for example, adult children caring for aging parents. The portal accepts a proxy registration that enables caregivers to use their own secure login to view health records for the people whose care they are coordinating.
With 10,000 users and counting, the Hixny for You portal is playing a critical role in fostering patient-centered care in the region, which gives healthcare providers one more reason to connect with Hixny.
