PLATTSBURGH – Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH) gastroenterology and ear, nose and throat (ENT) practices in Plattsburgh, are now sharing patient information securely through Hixny. They join 100 percent of nonprofit and private hospitals, more than 75 percent of primary care physicians and more than 65 percent of specialists in the region who are connected through the community health information exchange (HIE).
CVPH is part of the University of Vermont (UVM) Health Network, a Hixny member organization based in Burlington, Vt. Several CVPH divisions are already sharing data through Hixny, including adult medicine, orthopedics, neurology, family medicine and rheumatology.
Gastroenterology is a new specialty group within the hospital, focusing on issues of the digestive system. The more established ENT unit provides services including evaluation and treatment of hearing loss and balance disorders; care for chronic rhinosinusitis and nasal allergies; treatment for tonsillitis and middle ear disorders in children; smell and taste testing; and treatment of thyroid and parathyroid disorders and tumors.
Both groups are sharing patient records that include conditions and problems, medications, allergies, procedures, plans of care, vital signs, instructions, social histories and advance directives.
These connections add to Hixny’s continuous advancement in achieving meaningful exchanges of health information in the region. Through an increasing number of connections, and with growing patient consent, the healthcare community in the region and counterparts across the state can share the records that support better coordination of care for all New Yorkers.
Hixny, a not-for-profit healthcare collaborative, is a national leader in population health management support. Hixny utilizes secure technology to provide individuals, healthcare providers, payers and public health entities with the ability to share and use real-time electronic health records. This coordination of data enhances care for more than 1.7 million people in New York’s Capital District, Northern New York and the Mohawk Valley.
