Hixny members can now receive alerts from hospitals across most of New York State, thanks to Phase 2 of the Cross Qualified Entity Alerts (XQE) initiative.
The XQE initiative enables Hixny users to receive real-time notifications when patients, with consent, are admitted to or discharged from hospitals in other parts of the state.
In this phase, Hixny has joined health information exchanges (HIEs) in two more regions, HealthLinkNY and HealtheConnections, to offer the alerts. HealthLinkNY serves a 13-county region spanning the Hudson Valley, Catskills and Southern Tier, while HealtheConnections covers ten counties in central New York.
In phase 1, Hixny set up XQE alerts with two downstate HIEs—New York Care Information Gateway and Healthix. The HIEs include some of the largest hospitals in New York City and Long Island.
“With this phase, our region’s healthcare professionals will be notified whenever their patients are seen in hospitals across most of the state,” said Bryan Cudmore, Vice President of Account Management. “These real-time alerts are invaluable to better care coordination, higher efficiency and lower costs. Once phase 3 is implemented, the entire state will be sharing XQE alerts.”
Upon receipt of these alerts, Cudmore said, local healthcare professionals should visit the Hixny Provider Portal for additional patient information.
Phase 3 of the XQE initiative will bring the Bronx RHIO, Rochester RHIO and HEALTHeLINK (Buffalo) on line with the entire state. This is expected to be completed this summer/fall.
