Over the last two years, Hixny has launched optional alerts to help you care for individuals with common health conditions—such as diabetes and hypertension. Last year, we added alerts from the Statewide Health Information Network for New York (SHIN-NY). Now, we’re making a broader selection of alerts available across our region.

Hixny is in a unique position to create the registries that drive these alerts, because we bring together the most complete data set in the area. Our data is drawn from a wide range of contributors from across New York State, so our registries show a view of a patient that is as whole as possible, no matter how many doctors they see, where they see them, or how many times they change doctors or insurance plans.

Why is that Important?

Let’s take a look at hypertension as an example. For a patient to appear on a “suspected” registry, which triggers an alert for their care manager or provider, they need to show multiple high blood pressure readings without receiving a diagnosis.

That “suspected” registry draws from a few lists. Some indicate a hypertension diagnosis. A separate one indicates two or more high blood pressure readings. To be “suspected,” a patient has to appear on the high blood pressure list, but not on any of the lists showing a diagnosis.

If data is missing from any of those lists, then the usefulness of the “suspected” registry is compromised. Instead of receiving alerts about patients who may have undiagnosed hypertension—providers receive meaningless alerts for patients who are already diagnosed.

If a patient has given consent and sees Hixny-participating providers, all of their blood pressure readings and diagnoses are automatically in the system. Hixny has the most complete record in our region.

How Does Using Hixny Lead to Less Software?

If you’re using Hixny, you’ve already invested in the software that drives it. You already have access to the biggest, broadest data set in the region—and the state, thanks to the SHIN-NY connection—for the duration of a patient’s life or for the length of their time in New York.

That data set fuels comprehensive, more accurate registries, which in turn trigger truly urgent, relevant alerts—so you can be certain that your attention really is needed. And because we work in real time, Hixny is the ideal hub for alerts related to changes in a patient’s registry status, too.

There’s no need to build your own registries and lists using incomplete subsets of the data you already have at your fingertips through Hixny.

What’s the Bottom Line?

One of my colleagues has always said: “You can bring the rules to the data or the data to the rules. It’s a lot cheaper to bring the rules to the data than to move the data to the rules.”

So, ask yourself: Why build your own registry when Hixny’s doing the work for you?

Hixny will be performing extended maintenance beginning Thursday, December 31 through Friday, January 1. During this time, all services
will be impacted and unavailable—including access to the provider portal.
