ALBANY – More healthcare providers throughout the region are securely accessing more data through Hixny than ever before, as shown by robust results in two key metrics.
Transcribed reports, such as discharge summaries and surgery notes, shared by hospitals through Hixny’s health information exchange (HIE) rose 28 percent in a recent 12-month period. Meanwhile, event notifications—sent by Hixny to providers when their patients experience critical medical events—increased over the same time period.
John Bunnell, Hixny’s director of account operations, attributed the strong performance to an increase in participants.
“We’re welcoming more and more providers as they realize the value to their practices’ efficiency and quality of patient care,” he said. “With more participants, come more reports and more alerts.”
Alerts from other regions of New York to Hixny participants also contributed to the numbers, Bunnell said. These alerts have consistently topped 30,000 per month since the completion of the Cross Qualified Entity Alerts (XQE) initiative. XQE enables Hixny users to receive real-time notifications when patients, who have given consent to share their records, are admitted to or discharged from hospitals in other parts of the state.
“Providers need complete data about their patients, as well as specific data that they need when and where they need it,” said Mark McKinney, Hixny CEO. “The strength in these numbers demonstrates that Hixny continues to deliver on its promise of data quality, completeness and timeliness to support improved patient care across our service area.”
