ALBANY – Hixny’s uncompromising dedication to safeguarding patients’ data has been recognized yet again.
For the third year in a row, a pair of independent standards organizations have renewed their accreditations of Hixny privacy and security practices for two years. Hixny received the original accreditations from DirectTrust and the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission(EHNAC) in 2014, making it one of the first two regional, non-profit health information exchanges in the nation to achieve this goal.
EHNAC’s rigorous process examined every aspect of Hixny operations related to privacy and security. This included identification of confidential data flows inside and outside of Hixny, review of HIPAA policies and security safeguards, evaluation of secure data transmission metrics and review of IT security best practices, among other benchmarks.
All in all, the review included well over 100 controls as well as site visits to Hixny facilities.
Meanwhile, DirectTrust reviewed documentation of 24 key metrics from Hixny’s Direct messaging capability. Hixny met 100 percent of the metric requirements, according to the DirectTrust evaluation.
“These reaccreditations assure our stakeholders that safeguarding protected health information (PHI) continues to be a critical priority for Hixny,” said Taiymoor Naqi, director of privacy and security at Hixny. “They demonstrate that Hixny remains a trustworthy data exchange partner that will continuously adhere to both privacy and security regulatory requirements and industry best practices.”
